Continental Outdoor Media are honouring the fourth Nelson Mandela International Day on 18 July 2013, by donating in excess of R500K worth of out-of-home (OOH) sites to the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory .
The campaign has been flighted on Citilites throughout Gauteng, including digital screens in shopping malls across the country, OR Tambo International Airport, Cape Town International Airport and King Shaka Airport in KZN. The campaign has also been flighted with an iconic version of the campaign on the façade of the Continental Outdoor Media Head Office building in Bryanston, Johannesburg. South Africans are encouraged through this medium, to pledge their support on Pledge 4 Mandela Day and to honour the life and legacy of Madiba by making their Mandela Day activity a piece of history, by registering it at Mandela Day.
“We would like to show our gratitude and respect for Madiba, particularly in these difficult times and do our part to keep his legacy and his vision for South Africa alive,” commented Bazil Lauryssen, CEO of Continental Outdoor Media.
“What counts in life is not the mere fact we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead,” - Nelson Mandela.
Sello Hatang, Chief Executive, Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory said, “The vision behind Mandela Day is simple – that each individual has the ability and responsibility to impact change. One message drives this vision: Mr. Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for social justice and human rights. The Mandela Day campaign asks that individuals, groups and corporates use just 67 minutes of their time on 18 July and everyday thereafter to give back. No matter how small the action, the aim is to change the world for the better, just as Mr. Mandela has. Change is driven by those who make it. One man’s vision has inspired a global movement for good. Share in this vision and become a change maker. The Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory would like to thank Continental Outdoor Media for their contribution and dedication in promoting the work that we do. It is with partners such as these can we can ensure that Madiba’s legacy lives on.”
The Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory contributes to a just society by providing an integrated public information resource on his life and times and by convening dialogue around critical social issues. The overarching objective of Mandela Day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good. Ultimately it seeks to empower communities everywhere to take action, inspire change and make every day a Mandela Day.
